ADV. THITTALA

Fighting for social justice

Adv. Thittala was born in Kerala, India. Growing up in the paddy fields of Arpookara, Baiju developed a strong work ethic and a deep sense of community. Though life’s challenges temporarily delayed his aspirations, Baiju never abandoned his dreams of becoming a lawyer and a public servant.

After moving to England in 2004 with his wife, Ancy, a nurse, Baiju began his journey of education and service. He worked as a care assistant while studying politics, history, and sociology at Cambridge Regional College. Baiju graduated with a 2:1 LLB (Hons) degree in Law from Anglia Ruskin University in 2013, followed by advanced studies in Employment Law at the University of East Anglia and the Legal Practice Course at Anglia Ruskin University. He qualified as a solicitor in 2019 and now practices as a criminal defence lawyer in Cambridge.

Baiju’s dedication to public service began in 2009 with his involvement in the Indian Workers’ Association, where he led employment awareness sessions and lobbied for fair treatment of South Indian communities. In 2018, he was elected as a City Councillor for East Chesterton and, in May 2023, became Cambridge’s first Asian Deputy Mayor. In May 2024, Baiju made history as the first non-white Mayor of Cambridge.
